With the end of the World Championship, the 2023 LOL season is drawing to a close. In 2024, we are in for a year full of exciting developments. We will see dramatic transformation of the LOL world – with new creatures, changed landscapes and innovative game mechanics – and new music.
It Will Be the Year of the Void
The year 2024 marks an era in which the Void casts its shadow over the League of Legends map. The Void will be a dominant presence on the map in 2024. A palpable mystical aura surrounds the playing field.
One of the most striking new features will be the voidgrubs that will populate the Baron’s Lair. In combat, the larvae release voidmites that attack the opponent. Defeating a single voidmite will give your entire team a new item that provides additional damage against buildings.
Defeating at least five voidmites strengthens the team in the battle for dominance on the map.
New dynamics with Herald of the Rift and Baron Nashor in LOL 2024
After the Void arrives on the map, the Herald of the Rift will also change. In future, he will be controllable by players and can be used strategically against towers and opponents. This brings a new strategic level to the game.
The Baron Nashor, a central element in League of Legends, will receive an extensive facelift in 2024. In addition to its visual redesign, it brings three new form variants to the game, making the hunt for it even more exciting and varied: \
The Hunting Baron keeps everything the same, the Territorial Baron secures his lair with a wall and the All-Seeing Baron creates a tunnel by blocking the main entrance. Each of these variants has its own unique attack patterns, making every confrontation with the Baron a special experience.
Jungle Revolution: New Walls and New Pathways
As in 2023, the jungle is undergoing some significant changes in the 2024 season. This time, the developers paid particular attention to building new walls and revising the pathways.
A long wall directly opposite the Baron’s Hoard and one opposite the Dragon’s Hoard are the biggest changes in the jungle. Both walls offer protection on your own half of the map and allow for more flexible forays. The new structures and paths have a significant influence on players’ strategies and movement patterns.
Mystical Items Disappear
A major change in the 2024 season is the demystification of the item system. This means a shift in power from the items directly to the champions. This gives players more flexibility with their equipment options.
Two significant items, the Stopwatch and the Perfect Timing rune, will be removed from the game. Instead, one notable item will be added: The “Bahnbrecher”, an item specifically for tank supporters, was able to hold its own in a player survey and will become a permanent part of the game.

Communication Is Getting Friendlier
2024 will also bring changes to communication in League of Legends, particularly in the way players will communicate with each other. Discussions will either be friendlier – or at least more neutral. Quarrels are no longer welcome. Riot has addressed these issues with new in-game features. The new updates have already been installed.
This has not gone down well with some players – quite the opposite. In fact, they were met with fierce resistance, which even led to developer David “Phreak” Turley withdrawing from X due to serious death threats. It is unfortunate that factual and neutral communication seems to be so difficult for some. Phreak’s departure will leave a void on X.
