The Best Kingdom Hearts Games You Should Play

    Introduction

Now that Kingdom Hearts 4 is just around the corner, it is high time we talk about all the previous games that made Kingdom Hearts stand where it is today.

The game follows our main protagonist, Sora, who is on a journey to fight the darkness and is looking for his best friends, who were lost in the process. Accompanying him are our favorite Disney characters, Goofy and Donald Duck.

You can purchase all the games online but for that to happen, you would need an internet connection that is blazing fast. It would be a wise decision if you contact Spectrum so that they could hook you up with such an internet connection.

Back to Kingdom Hearts, here are the best Kingdom Hearts games that you should play. If you are new to the series, be sure to play all of them!

    Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts“The closer you get to the light, the darker your shadow becomes”

We’ll start this list off with the first one in the series, the one that started it all. Kingdom Hearts. The game was originally released back in 2002 by Square Enix (then known as Squaresoft), and it took the entire gaming industry by storm.

The game had a very iconic storyline, following Sora and his best friends, Riku and Kairi, who live on the Destiny Islands.

All three of them dream of building a raft and setting sail so that they can explore the worlds outside their Island. However, the night they are supposed to leave, the Island becomes engulfed in darkness, and all three of them are separated.

This begins Sora’s journey to fight the darkness and look for his friends as he is accompanied by Donald (who is King Mickey’s mage) and Goofy (who is Mickey’s royal knight). Donald and Goofy are also set on a journey to look for the king, who has disappeared.

    Kingdom Hearts II

Kingdom Hearts II“Sora, you’re lucky. Looks like my summer vacation is….. over”

Even though Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories comes between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, it is still the proper sequel to the first game. By the end of Re: Chain of Memories, Sora begins losing his memories because of being in Castle Oblivion and is put in a pod that helps him restore his memories.

Kingdom Hearts II picks up right after the restoration process finishes, and that is when Sora, Donald, and Goofy begin another adventure to look for Riku and Kairi. Though Sora does find them at the end of Kingdom Hearts, in the second part, he has to look for them again.

One thing that makes Kingdom Hearts II the best out of all the Kingdom Hearts games is the brilliant story and the fluid gameplay mechanics. Anyone who wishes to play Kingdom Hearts II should know that they will be in for a treat when they do!

    Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep “I’m asking you as a friend, just put an end to me”

This was probably the only Kingdom Hearts game that had a relatively darker undertone. Just like Sora, Riku, and Kairi’s trio, this game is based on a trio as well. This game is based on new characters called Terra, Aqua, and Ventus.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is set 10 years before the events of the first Kingdom Hearts, making it a prequel. The game was definitely a “game changer” because it put the entire story into perspective and gave a new meaning to it.

We remember being absolutely blown away when we played the game for the first time. This was the game where the “Xehanort Saga” actually began and it explained who the actual villain behind the whole turmoil was. The game was definitely like a knife to the heart, so be sure to have a box of tissues while you are playing!

    Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance “I walk the Road to Dawn!”

This game was originally released on the 3DS but was later remastered for the PlayStation 4, just like all the other Kingdom Hearts games. The game held quite an important position from a story perspective and it really made the series take a leap forward.

In this game, Sora and Riku actually come close to Xehanort and it sets the plot for Kingdom Hearts III. In the game, you get to play as both Riku and Sora, just like Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories.

It also introduced “flowmotion,” which was an enhanced version of parkour and was perfect for combat as well. However, while the game was perfect from a story and gameplay perspective, it lacked the part where you have to interact way too much with your Dream Eaters, making it profoundly annoying at times.

    Kingdom Hearts III

Kingdom Hearts III“May your heart be your guiding key!”

This is the second last game in the Kingdom Hearts series, the last one being Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. However, it was the last major game that actually made the story take a leap forward and changed a lot of things for Sora and his friends.

In this game, Sora and his friends go head to head against Master Xehanort so that they can finally put an end to the Xehanort Saga and his mission to forge the X-Blade.

The game was released on the PlayStation 4, and it had graphics like no other Kingdom Hearts game ever had. To the point that even Pirates of the Caribbean was featured as a world in the game, and it was so realistic that you couldn’t tell the difference between the game and the actual movie.

The combat in the game was fairly decent as well and in the DLC called ReMind, you actually get to play with other characters, such as Terra, Roxas, Ventus, and Riku. This makes the experience even better, and we would suggest that you play the DLC as well.

    Last Words

While Kingdom Hearts might seem like a game for kids, once you start playing it, you will see that it has the kind of story that would leave you scratching your head. However, the series is one of Square Enix’s best productions, teaching you how important friendships are in life!
