League of Legends and its many derivative games, such as Teamfight Tactics (TFT) and Legends of Runeterra, revolve around communication. Whether it’s simple banter between opposing sides or crucial teamwork and cooperation, the games are ingrained with communication. Naturally, Riot Games have developed many communication methods in their various games.
This article will explain how the chat system works in the auto-chess game Teamfight Tactics–TFT. So, let’s get to it.
What you can expect:
- How to communicate in TFT.
- Customizing chat in TFT.
- Author’s take on the importance of communication.
How Chatting Works in TFT
With how vital communication is in online spaces, Riot Games have made it as straightforward as possible in all their games, including TFT. The chat option is identical to League of Legends proper, and all you have to do is press the default ‘Enter’ key to open the chat. Then you can type in whatever you want, and everyone in the match can see it.
Unlike League of Legends, there is no need for ‘Shift and Enter’ or typing /all in the chat. Everyone’s messages are immediately visible to the whole lobby.
Chat Isn’t Showing Up–How Do I Enable It?
You may have your chat disabled by default in Teamfight Tactics. But don’t worry. This is a simple button press away. Press ‘Escape’ at the top-left of your keyboard, then head on to the ‘Interface’ tab and scroll down until you see the ‘Enable Chat’ option. Press on the little box and hit okay. Chat should now be available and visible to you; you can yap away with your opponents or allies.
In that same ‘Interface’ tab, you can customize how your chat looks by adding Timestamps or changing the chatbox size. By pressing ‘Z’ on your keyboard, you can reveal the chat’s history and scroll up or down if many messages are contained within.
Does TFT Have Voice Chat?
Yes. Riot Games have added a voice chat feature to their League of Legends client that is used to launch Teamfight Tactics matches. Pre-made lobbies are given the option of using said voice chat. Unfortunately, you cannot voice chat with your opponents but only those within said premade lobby. We hope that Riot will one day add a voice chat option to allow us to communicate with our opponents. However, we see this might lead to increased toxicity (a problem prevalent even now), and Riot Games will probably never risk adding this feature to the game.
How to Chat in Mobile TFT?
Unfortunately, there is no option to chat or communicate in Teamfight Tactics on mobile. While the game has crossplay between Mobile and PC, only those gaming on the latter can see any messages. The chat itself is not part of the mobile experience, and it remains to be seen if Riot will add it in at all.
You can use mobile apps like Discord to communicate with teammates in duos and pre-made sessions on mobile. Other messaging apps will work fine, such as Messenger or similar. Discord is perhaps the best gaming-oriented communications app, and you should consider it first for completing your mobile gaming experience.
Conclusion
Teamfight Tactics puts more on the solo player than League of Legends proper. However, that doesn’t mean that communication is entirely gone. Bantering with opponents or communicating with pre-made teammates is both fun and sometimes quite helpful. We hope you’ve enhanced your knowledge of the TFT experience and wish you all the best in your auto-chess matches.
