LOL Worlds 2023: Angst and Pain Among Fans

At the LOL Worlds 2023, teams from across the globe battle it out. Some celebrate victories, while others feel the sting of defeat. Some fans, driven by passion and loyalty, tend to place their teams on a pedestal. But what’s the real score on the dominance of the top leagues?

Vietnam and Switzerland Leading the Pack 🇻🇳🇨🇭

A tweet by user @Zoomer8221 suggests that LCK (Korea), LPL (China), and LEC (Europe) are the current dominant divisions.

However, a closer look at the stats reveals that Vietnam and Switzerland, represented by their teams GAM Esports (VCS) and Team BDS (LEC), have taken the lead. Four wins, one loss, and the ability to score three points in a single game are noteworthy achievements. More on days 1-3 and days 4-11 of the LOL Worlds 2023 can be found in the recap.

The Pain is Real: But Nothing’s Set in Stone Yet 😥

Going by user zoom’s statement, the Chinese division should be leading. But they aren’t. The Chinese teams, notably WeiboGaming FAW AUDI, Suzhou LNG Esports, and Bilibili Gaming Pingan Bank, displayed solid performances on Day 10, yet they still trail behind the two frontrunners. Moreover, none of these teams managed to score three points in a game, as BDS and GAM did.

Korea, typically an esports titan, hasn’t exactly shined at the LOL Worlds 2023 as of Day 10. Apart from a win by Gen.G against GAM Esports and another victory by T1 against Team Liquid Honda, there’s not much to cheer about. kt Rolster suffered a loss right in their first game.

📸 A Glimpse into Fans’ Reactions

Indeed, some fans have publicly voiced their frustration and disappointment over their teams’ performances, with some even calling for investigations. User @avidcule is demanding a probe into BOTPA (T1)’s game by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC). According to the user, nobody in the history of LOL has played as poorly as BOTPA from T1, suspecting it might have been intentional.

For other fans, it’s not so much about anger but more about the pain. For instance, @AphromeowD tweets, “its actually a pain to be a TL fan during worlds….”

Korea isn’t currently dazzling with exceptional performances. And China, too, seems to be hovering around average. As of now, the teams from Vietnam (VCS) and Europe (LEC) are dominating. However, the LOL Worlds 2023 is still in full swing, set to conclude on November 19th.

A lot can change. It remains to be seen whether the current frontrunners can maintain their edge or if the so-called “major leagues” will bounce back and dominate the tournament. Both the Chinese (LPL) and the Korean teams (LCK) have the potential to turn the tables. 🎉🕒🏆
