As the 12th Season of League of Legends dawned onto the live servers, the concept of a static meta seemed to lose ground in favor of a more dynamic, wilder scene, where nearly all champions can pass off as viable Junglers. However, at the core of the Jungle role, the Bruiser/Fighter class remains as dominant as ever, a fact supported even by the competitive scene, where these gank-focused skirmishers thrive more than ever.

Having already covered Jarvan IV and Trundle, it is time to take a look at Xin Zhao, The Seneschal of Demacia, whose pick and win rate skyrocketed since the slight rework of his Wind Becomes Lightning (W) ability.

One of the greatest aspects of playing Xin Zhao is his wide flexibility, allowing players to adapt their damage and resistances to the particular needs of each game. Making the best use of this scarcely matched versatility requires players to recognize the enemy team’s win conditions and build accordingly, as The Seneschal of Demacia can shut down nearly any composition if executed properly.

Heading into our guide we will first be taking a look at the best Summoner Spells, Runes and items to run on Xin, with our main subject being the ultimate Jungle route and clearing strategy to follow when looking to take over the Jungle!

Stay tuned!

Summoner Spells

Flash + Smite

Despite the recent tendencies of substituting Flash with other Summoner Spells, there is little debate about this topic when it comes to Xin Zhao, as Flash remains the objectively superior pick.

Xin Zhao Runes

There are two primary play styles for Xin Zhao, the main one focusing on the Bruiser/Fighter style, while the other takes a more aggressive approach, turning the The Seneschal of Demacia into a menacing on-hit carry. Let us go over the highest performing Runes for both styles.

For the standard, Bruiser play style, players will be taking Conqueror as their Keystone, with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity or Legend: Tenacity and Last Stand as the completing options. These picks are rather self-explanatory, being the standard approach for most Bruisers.

As for the secondary Runes, Magical Footwear and Approach Velocity make for pretty standard picks, focusing on gold efficiency and utilty. Subsequently, players can also choose to go with Bone Plating and Revitalize, for added defense.

On-hit Build

While these Runes originally relied on Hail of Blades, the recent changes to Lethal Tempo seemed to have caused a shift in individual preferences, as players could now also take three Runes from the Precision tree, those being Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Last Stand.

The most common secondary options for this approach are Sudden Impact and Relentless / Ravenous Hunter, but Magical Footwear and Approach Velocity perform just as well with the on-hit build too.

Xin Zhao Items

  • Starting Items: Emberknife / Hailblade + Refillable Potion
  • Mythic Item: Goredrinker / Trinity Force / Divine Sunderer / Eclipse
  • Core Items: Defensive Boots, Sterak’s Gage, Wit’s End, Death’s Dance
  • Finishing Options: Guardian Angel, Spirit Visage, Black Cleaver, Blade of the Ruined King

The first dilemma surrounds your ideal Mythic item, which is best determined by looking at the enemy team’s composition, primarily checking if the enemy champions are mostly ranged or melee. Against primarily melee enemies, Goredrinker will be the most effective option, allowing you to regenerate considerable amounts of Health in the midst of combat.

If the enemy team has two or less melee champions, it is best to invest in either Trinity Force or Divine Sunderer, given how well the on-hit effects synergize with Xin Zhao’s abilities. Picking up a Sheen early into the game will also turn into a considerable power spike. The choice between Divine Sunderer and Trinity Force should be made based on how much of problem you expect the enemy tanks to be, as Sunderer will prove highly effective against those champions.

Lastly, picking up Eclipse as your Mythic might be a popular approach, but we must add that it seems to be underperforming against well-rounded team compositions. We’d recommend going with Eclipse only if the enemy team has very few, or entirely lacks, solid frontline champions.

For the rest of the build, the standard Bruiser items will work flawlessly with Xin Zhao’s kit. Wit’s End is especially powerful on The Seneschal of Demacia, and for the On-hit build, we can also recommend picking up a Blade of the Ruined King, balancing the rest of your items accordingly with the enemy team’s win conditions.

Skill Order

W > E > Q > R

Despite maxing W first, in the Jungle, Xin Zhao players should be investing their first spell point into E, as besides the upfront damage, it also grants a considerable attack speed boost, useful against the first Jungle camp.

The Best Jungle Paths for Xin Zhao

With the increased costs of his build, Xin Zhao needs to find early gold advantages, which are best obtained through ganks. For this reason, The Seneschal of Demacia prefers going for a five camp clear rather than a full one, as he prioritizes tempo over the gold and experience from the Krugs, which is the camp we’re going to be skipping over.

We are going to cover the most advantageous starts from each side, but players should keep a few factors in mind when deciding upon where their Jungle pathing should start. These are:

  • Which laners are going to provide more help in clearing the first camp?
  • Counter-jungle opportunities, based on where the enemy Jungler is likely to start.
  • Which lane would you like to gank first, depending on both the allied and enemy champions.

Xin’s ganks are incredibly effective once he hits LVL 3, with the standard W + E + Q combo being more than enough to secure a takedown in most cases.

Red Side – Red Clear

Starting our route and clearing guide from the Red Side, the Red Buff start may kick off as slow, but it progressively speeds up as Xin Zhao unlocks his basic abilities, becoming notably efficient at clearing camps once he hits LVL 3.

Secure the Red Buff and head for the Raptor camp second, casting Smite on the larger mob to accelerate the process and stay healthy. Following the organic route, make your way to the Wolves and steadily clear that camp using E and Q.

Once your basic abilities are unlocked, the next camp, the Blue Buff, is going to go very smoothly, especially when considering that your second Smite charge should be invested into it, accelerating your tempo.

Before heading into the River and scouting for ganks, slay the Gromp. It will restore most of your HP, allowing you to secure the Scuttler confidently.

In the River, break the Scuttler’s shield using Q’s third hit effect and continue hitting at it until killed. In the meantime, you can start scouting Mid and Bot for ganking opportunities, because as soon as you are done with securing the extra gold, experience and vision from the Scuttler, you are going to rush a gank immediately before resetting.

Red Side – Blue Clear

When starting from the opposite side of your Jungle, you can expect to finish the first five camps a bit more quickly, as having two allies assisting with the first camp is going to accelerate your early tempo.

After slaying the Blue Buff, challenge the Gromp and use Smite to take it down as quickly as possible, before heading towards your multi-mob camps.

The Wolves and Raptors won’t pose much of a threat to Xin Zhao, as his kit offers plenty of AOE damage and healing, besides the Refillable Potion in players’ inventory, which can be used at any given time when running low on Health.

For the final camp of your Jungle, secure your second Buff using Xin’s impressive dueling power in combination with the second Smite charge, allowing you to once again walk into the River with confidence.

Given how quick this route is, players should not realistically worry about the enemy Jungler coming to contest the Scuttler, but in case it happens, know that Xin’s early combat power allows him to win most 1v1s rather safely.

Whilst hitting away at the Scuttler, once again start scouting the Lanes, as you are going to immediately shift your focus towards either Mid or Top in order to start securing those early gold leads.

Blue Side – Blue Clear

Switching over to the opposite side of the map now, the clearing routes are going to be identical, besides the mirrored positions of the Jungle monsters.

Start by slaying the Blue Buff with the help of your Top laner, without using Smite, as we’re keeping it for our second camp, as shown in the associated picture.

For the second objective, begin hitting away at the Gromp’s HP using E + Q, eventually finishing it with Smite once its Health drops below the threshold. Combining Smite’s heal with the Gromp’s Health restoration will leave players with a full Health bar, enabling you to safely clear the next two camps without Smite.

As for the third and fourth camps, these are once again the multi-mobs (Wolves and Raptors) organically positioned on your path towards Red, which won’t typically pose a threat to Xin Zhao.

Lastly, slay the Red Buff with the use of your entire kit, including Smite. This will leave you in a comfortable position to head into the River, securing the Scuttler before executing a gank on Mid or Bot.

Blue Side – Red Clear

Starting from the Red Buff will give players the edge of having two allies’ assistance, further boosting their tempo.

The rest of the clearing route is pretty standard, as players should head straight for the Raptors second, using Smite to take down the largest mob, before making their way towards the Wolf camp.

The Wolves are relatively easy to clear with Xin, but the Refillable Potion is always going to be there in case you feel unsafe.

As for the fourth camp, a standard W + E + Q combo and a few more auto-attacks are going to be sufficient to take Blue’s HP below the Smite threshold, at which point players should execute it with the second charge.

As previously, slay the Gromp before making your way into the River, where you are more than safe to take any 1v1 contests the enemy Jungler might throw at you, although that is quite unlikely to happen, considering Xin’s natural tempo.

Last before least, secure the Scuttler using Q’s third hit to break its shell and start scouting for an early gank, investing it into the Lane which is most likely to successfully convert it into a takedown, before your first reset.

Tips and Tricks

  • As emphasized on throughout this guide, Xin Zhao’s early and mid-game focus on building up a gold lead, which also raises the importance of securing Turret Plates. For Junglers, this is best achieved though the Rift Herald, so do not neglect Shelly through the earlier stages of the game.
  • Xin Zhao’s standard combo and ganks rely heavily on landing W in order to apply the “Challenged” mechanic, extending Audacious Charge’s (E) range. Wind Becomes Lightning (W) has a relatively fast animation, meaning that with a bit of practice, players can consistently land the all-important spell when needed.
  • Remember that Crescent Guard (R) can act both as an engage and disengage tool, depending on the situation. The one mechanic where players seem to fail is tracking who the “Challenged” enemy is. As a quick reminder, the last enemy hit by Xin’s basic attacks, W or E is going to be marked for 3 seconds, or until you hit another enemy.
  • Similarly to Jarva IV, prioritize building a Guardian Angel as your fifth item or sooner, instead of leaving it for last. Despite Crescent Guard’s invulnerability towards champions who are out of R’s range, you might still find yourself getting focused by the entirety of the enemy team until your allies manage to follow up your engages, adding more value to having a Guardian Angel.

Finalizing Thoughts

The most influential factor when it comes to succeeding with Xin Zhao is arguably nailing his itemization. Effectively balancing between offensive and defensive items can turn The Seneschal of Demacia into a near unkillable Bruiser, whose engages and disengages can shift team fights entirely. (lesroches.edu)

Towards the late game, Xin Zhao’s primary focus is to break up the enemy team using his Ultimate ability, separating the carries from their supportive allies. Crescent Guard will also leave you in a duel, which Xin should have no trouble winning, but ideally, you want to find yourself in an isolated combat against a squishy target, whom you can easily kill before the enemy team has time to regroup and cross your invulnerability zone.

With this we conclude our ultimate Jungle route and clearing guide for Xin Zhao, The Seneschal of Demacia, hoping you found it useful for your future games!

Riot’s hit series, Arcane, was an immediate success, conquering the masses and the critics alike, even before dropping its third act. The show has left viewers with plenty of unanswered questions, but perhaps none are as popular with the fan base as are the theories surrounding Vander’s transformation.

By the end of Arc 3, although not directly, fans have received their confirmation, as we now finally know the origin story behind Warwick, the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun. Although the producers never officially confirmed the theory, every piece of information resulting from the show and Warwick’s official lore simply work together too perfectly, as some of the hints we’ve received were a little bit more than obvious.

Shifting our focus back to Riot’s mainstream game, which Warwick has been part of since the very beginning, as one of the original 17 champions League of Legends debuted with. Given this large timeframe, it should come as no surprise that the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun has had his fair share of reworks and adjustments, keeping him in tone with the newer champions.

Although we occasionally see Warwick on the Top Lane, the beast’s true nature is best experienced from the Jungle, which is also the subject of this article. Allow us to walk you through the best Summoner Spells, Runes and items for Warwick, before diving into our main subject, the ultimate Jungle route, clearing and ganking strategies to dominate games with!

Enjoy!

Summoner Spells

Flash + Smite

Flash is overall the best Summoner Spell for Warwick, considering its many uses. Some high ELO players have been seen running Ghost on him, resembling the high movement speed play style of champions such as Hecarim, but for now we’d strongly recommend sticking with Flash.

Warwick Runes

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide

For a while now, Press the Attack has been the go-to Keystone for Warwick, but despite its recent nerfs, Lethal Tempo is still just as, if not more popular ever since its rework. We’ll ultimately place our bets on Press the Attack, but players who personally prefer running Lethal Tempo are free to do so, as it is still more than viable on Warwick.

For the rest of your Runes, Triumph, Legend: Alacrity and Last Stand are the standard options, mixing survivability with damage most effectively.

Subsequently, for the secondary Runes, go over to the Sorcery tree and pick Celerity and Waterwalking, which are going to prove extremely useful when chasing down opponents using Blood Hunt (W).

Warwick Items

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide Items

Starting Items: Hailblade / Emberknife + Refillable Potion

Mythic Item: Divine Sunderer / Goredrinker

Core Items: Defensive Boots, Titanic Hydra, Sterak’s Gage

Finishing Options: Thornmail, Spirit Visage, Dead Man’s Plate, Guardian Angel

In terms of your Mythic choice, it’s best to pick between Goredrinker and Divine Sunderer based on the number of ranged champions your opponents have, as well as their likely win conditions. Both Mythic items work flawlessly with Warwick’s kit, but in case your team needs some added frontline power, Sunfire Aegis is by all means another great option.

Besides the mandatory Titanic Hydra and Sterak’s Gage, the rest of Warwick’s items should be aimed at building resistances against the enemy carries, as effectively as possible. Against AP champions, Spirit Visage is the undoubted best option, as it also enhances Warwick’s natural healing, while Thornmail or Dead Man’s Plate provide plenty of armor and unique effects which greatly benefit the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun.

Skill Order

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide Skill Order

W > Q > E > R

The idea of maxing W first may sound strange to some, but the back-to-back passive and active effects simply provide more value than the leveled up forms of Q or E.

Regardless of that, your first spell point should be invested into Q in order to help with the first clear, maxing W from that point on.

The Best Jungle Paths for Warwick

Although Warwick’s Passive healing makes him incredibly effective at clearing the Jungle camps, power farming is not what this champion was intended to play around. If we simply take a look at Warwick’s W, Blood Hunt, it becomes obvious that the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun was designed to hunt down vulnerable enemies one after another, snowballing the game through dominant Map presence and a gold lead made up of takedowns.

Although Warwick’s ganks are fairly easy to execute, players should still wait until LVL 3 before starting to attack the Lanes.

1. Red Side – Red Clear

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide Red Side Red Clear

While many champions share similar Jungle routes, by either going for a full clear or simply skipping over the Krug camp, Warwick players are meant to take a different approach. Given how the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun lacks AOE damage, his early clear is not particularly effective against multi-mob camps, such as the Krugs or Raptors, which might be too costly to slay, in terms of both Health and tempo.

Start by securing the first camp, the Red Buff, then heading straight into the other side of your Jungle. Once there, players should first clear the Wolf camp, which is going to do less harm than the Raptors, considering the smaller number of mobs this camp includes.

For the third objective, players are to be headed towards the Blue Buff, securing it using their basic abilities and attacks, before finally casting Smite to execute it. Given Warwick’s passive healing and Smite, players are left with more than enough Health to also take on the Gromp, which is once again going to restore most of your max HP.

Skipping over the Raptor camp is ultimately going to convert into a considerable amount of tempo, which players should further accelerate by securing the Scuttler efficiently, using Primal Howl (E) to break its shield with the “flee” mechanic, and also investing the second Smite charge to finish the camp as quickly as possible.

This leaves players in the Bottom Side River with LVL 3, ready to charge towards any enemy afflicted by Blood Hunt (W), the mechanic which usually guides most of Warwick’s ganks.

2. Red Side – Blue Clear

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide Red Side Blue Clear

Switching our starting position to the other side of the Map, the core strategy remains largely unchanged, as Warwick players will once again skip over the Raptor camp.

This time, securing the first Buff will be considerably easier, since players will now be having two allies’ assistance, which speeds up the process considerably.

After Blue, head directly for the Gromp, as shown in the associated image, followed by the Wolf camp. Both of these may take a while to slay, as players should keep both charges of Smite for later, but the seemingly lost tempo is soon going to be recovered.

Having now fully cleared the Bottom Side of your Jungle, make your way straight to the Red Buff, slaying it by using your basic abilities, attacks and the first Smite, before stepping into the River to secure the Scuttler.

Once again, use the “flee” mechanic on Warwick’s E to break the Scuttler’s shield, followed by a Q and a few basic attacks until it drop below 450 Health, allowing the second charge of Smite to finish the camp for you.

By now, it is quite likely that the Top or Mid Laners have traded enough for Blood Hunt’s (W) passive to activate, enabling Warwick to perform a quick gank by charging E and leaping onto the target using Q, triggering E’s second cast when in position to cripple the enemy Laner.

3. Blue Side – Blue Clear

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide Blue Side Blue Clear

Now switching over to the opposing side, the optimal routes and clearing strategies do not change much, besides having the strong and weak sides mirrored.

Start by killing the Blue Buff using the slow, basic attack approach, holding on to Smite for later. Although this might take a while, Warwick’s pathing will naturally make up for the lost tempo.

Next on the list is the Gromp, which will once again demand a bit more time to slay, but will at least leave you rather Healthy for your next objective, the Wolf camp, as shown in the image. After the Wolves, players should naturally head for the Red Buff, completely ignoring the Raptors, as with the previous clears.

At the Red Buff, which is the only camp you’re going to be clearing from the Bottom side of your Jungle, it is time to use the first Smite charge, aiding with the tempo recovery process, transitioning directly into the River once the Red Buff has been claimed.

As previously, use E to break the Scuttler’s shield and the second Smite charge to execute it once its Health drops below the 450 threshold, securing some extra vision for your team besides the gold and experience. From this point, players should once again rely on Blood Hunt (W) to determine which lane to gank, as Warwick’s rapid tempo and movement speed bonuses can catch enemies by surprise from early on.

4. Blue Side – Red Clear

The Best Warwick Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide Blue Side Red Clear

For the final starting position, players should once again start by securing the Red Buff with the assistance of their Bot Laners, effectively shortening the normal time needed to clear their first camp.

Having secured the first Buff, ignore the Raptors and cross the map, heading straight for the Wolf camp, similarly to the Red Side’s Red Clear, clearing that camp steadily.

Having kept your Smite up until now, invest it in your 3rd objective, the Blue Buff, allowing Warwick to regenerate some of the Health lost while clearing the Wolves. After Blue, players should make one last stop before entering the River, in order to first secure some extra gold and experience through the Gromp, which may take a bit to slay, returning plenty of resources if executed.

Once more, make sure to slay the Scuttler as effectively as possible, with the proper use of the “flee” mechanic and Smite, before targeting either Top or Mid with a gank, depending on your Blood Hunt’s status.

Best Tips and Tricks for Warwick

  • Warwick’s Q, Jaws of the Beast has two mechanics new players forget about. First, the dash and bite from Q applies on-hit effects, working flawlessly with an early Sheen if built towards Divine Sunderer. Secondly, by holding on to Q, the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun locks onto the target, swinging towards their far side, ideal for repositioning yourself in order to aim Primal Howl’s (E) fear.
  • Since Blood Hunt (W) allows you to chase down opponents from the very beginning, and its Passive is continuously active, make sure to clear and limit the enemy vision line as much as possible through Control Wards and Sweepers. This way, enemies will be less likely to expect you charging towards them to finish the kill, increasing the odds of success.
  • Primal Howl (E) reduces incoming damage by an impressive 55% when maxed out, making it ideal for team fights when you need to soak up a lot of damage for your team, before recasting it to activate the “flee” effect.
  • Lastly, Infinite Duress (R) also applies on-hit effects for a total of 3 times, and the range on its leap is also determined by Warwick’s current movement speed, holding up the reasons for taking Celerity and Waterwalking as the secondary Runes.

Finalizing Thoughts

The Uncaged Wrath of Zaun is one of those champions which demands players to get into the role, restlessly hunting their opponents across the Map, following the scent of blood. For many, this is the definition of a well-designed character, giving new depths to the gameplay experience.

Throughout the game, Warwick is tasked with dominating the Map, being present wherever there are low Health enemies, getting the most out of his Blood Hunt (W) ability. This is easier to accomplish during the earlier stages of the game, as the enemy team is less likely to group up. If your opponents happen to still roam in isolation during the late game, Warwick can punish those decisions by taking the 1v1, which he’s likely to win.

As most games go, once both teams start grouping up, Warwick’s impact slightly diminishes, but the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun can still find fight-turning plays through the proper use of his Primal Howl (E) and Ultimate ability, breaking up the cluster of enemies for his team to clean up.

Blood Hunt will provide plenty of utility throughout the game, as players can detect opponents trying to take major objectives such as Drake or Baron. The amount of information provided by W during a regular game is rather impressive, and what players choose to do with that information is what separates great Warwick carries from the rest.

That being said, we will now conclude our Jungle route and clearing guide on Warwick, the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun, urging all readers to keep a keen eye out on our website, where we regularly upload more League-related content!

As one of the most iconic Void champions, Kha’Zix and his timeless kit provides plenty of fun to players in all ELOs. Assassin junglers have been rising in popularity, largely thanks to the recently introduced items, with the arrival of Season 12.

Although he may not benefit as much from the new Axiom Arc, there are still plenty of changes that make Kha’Zix a very powerful pick, allowing him to lurk in the shadows and one-shot enemies.

The current meta also seems to favor full Jungle clears over partial routes, but despite having a weaker clear than some of the other Assassin junglers, namely Kayn or Nocturne, Kha’Zix players can still expect to see huge success with the champion, if executed properly.

Since the Scuttler’s value as a jungle camp has dropped significantly, especially in the early stages of the game, players will not bother clearing it as often, giving Kha’Zix extra fog of war to lurk in. The addition of the Chemtech Rift further extends the distance Kha’Zix players can go unseen, making it easier than ever to punish targets who venture a bit too far without their teammates, but more on that later.

In this guide, we’ll be taking a look at the best Jungle paths for Kha’Zix in Season 12, as well as at some tips and tricks and off-meta builds which dominate certain ELOs.

Stay tuned!

Summoner Spells

The standard options are Flash and Smite, but just as with other highly mobile assassins, experienced players can get away with running Ignite instead of Flash. Note that this requires quite some courage to pull off, as you will be relying solely on your E resets and invisibility in order to get out of risky situations. For starters, we recommend running Flash.

Kha’Zix Runes

The standard runes haven’t changed that much in the past years, but a new off-meta option has slowly been rising on all servers. We’re obviously talking about First Strike, added into the game with the arrival of Patch 11.23.

Standard Build

Traditionally, players would run either Dark Harvest or Electrocute, as both keystones allow Kha’Zix to unleash his one-shot potential rather quickly. Sudden Impact works great with his E and ultimate abilities, and Relentless Hunter offers extra speed when it comes to hunting down enemy champions.

For the secondary runes, Magical Footwear and Cosmic Insight are pretty standard options, providing gold efficiency and extra CDR, but some players will prefer running Triumph and Coup de Grace as more offensive options.

First Strike Build

One of the biggest issues when it comes to AD assassins is the amount of gold needed to reach the point where you can simply delete enemy champions in one combo. First Strike offers not only extra gold, but also extra damage, on the condition that you land the first hit; otherwise the keystone goes on cooldown.

Experienced players can abuse this rune by engaging in early combats in the enemy Jungle, as very few champions can fight Kha’Zix while Isolated. This enables players to get an early gold advantage which they can then leverage into total domination, but once again, this route requires a decent amount of experience on the champion.

Kha’Zix Items

Start: Hailblade + Refillable Potion

Mythic: Duskblade

While most AD Assassins thrive on Duskblade, we shouldn’t the infamous Prowler’s Claw, which can be even more effective if the enemy team consists of mostly squishy targets. This Mythic is slightly more challenging to use effectively, but we do recommend giving it a try every now and then.

Core: Defensive Boots, Black Cleaver, Edge of Night

Finishing options: Serylda’s Grudge, Ravenous Hydra, Guardian Angel

Skill Order

Q > E > W > R

This is also the order you want to evolve your abilities is, reaching your power spike at Level 11, when your E can get you both in and out of combat thanks to its resets. When running Prowler’s Claw, players could evolve their Ultimate ability instead of W last, in order to get more room for invisible plays.

The Best Jungle Paths for Kha’Zix

Now for the main topic of this guide, Jungle pathing with Kha’Zix. We are going to cover the possible starts from each side, but players should keep a few factors in mind when deciding upon where their Jungle pathing should start. These are:

  • Which laners are going to provide more help in clearing the first camp?
  • Counter-jungle opportunities, based on where the enemy Jungler is likely to start.
  • Which lane would you like to gank first, depending on both the allied and enemy champions.

It is essential to find early ganks and solo kills with Kha’Zix, in order to fully benefit from his enormous 1v1 potential when the enemies are Isolated.

Without further to do, let’s start breaking down the optimal Jungle paths for The Voidreaver.

1. Red Side – Red Clear

As depicted in the image above, Kha’Zix will comfortably clear the Red Buff, with the enormous burst damage of his Q against Isolated targets. After leveling up, the first point should go in W, which will provide you with considerable healing against the Raptors. Next up are the Wolves, where Kha’Zix players will want to kill the two little ones first, in order to get the Isolation mechanic on the large one.

Note that you should not be using Smite until you reach your fourth camp, the Blue Buff, heading into your fifth, the Gromp. These two are probably the easiest to clear, as the Isolation damage on your Q can be activated continuously.

Lastly, we reach the Scuttler, where the second Smite should be cast. Importantly, if the enemy jungler happens to be on the same side of the River, you should not hesitate to fight them. Kha’Zix dominates 1v1 trades, largely thanks to his Q and Isolation mechanic. If you notice the enemy laners coming your way before your allies, E can easily get you out of sticky situations.

Assuming you’ve successfully cleared the Scuttler, the map is now open for ganks on the Bottom- or Mid lane.

However, if you catch an opportunity to gank either lane before clearing the Scuttler, simply go for it. Given the nerfs to the camp, it is more valuable to put either you or your laners ahead early, making up for the gold and XP through the numerous ganks and assassinations Kha’Zix was made for.

This champion may not be as effective in clearing Jungle camps as his competitors, which is why it is imperative to play him as an avid assassin, constantly seeking isolated 1v1s to out-damage your opponents. Very few junglers can match Kha’Zix in a 1v1, given the enormous damage burst on his Q against Isolated targets.

2. Red Side – Blue Clear

Things are somewhat different when starting from the Blue Buff, namely because you should have two allies helping you with your first camp. After rapidly clearing Blue, head to the Gromp and burst it down with Isolated Qs and Smite, to then finish the blue side of your Jungle by clearing the Wolves.

From there, it is optimal to go for the Raptors. Some players might be concerned about losing a bit more HP than with other Junglers, but with the Refillable Potion and the heal from W, you should be good without having to use Smite, saving it for the Red Buff.

Clearing the Red Buff will go quickly, as Smite and Isolated Qs will shred through its health bar rather effectively.

At this point, players have two primary options. Depending on how the lanes are pushing, Kha’Zix can skip over Krugs and rush the Scuttler and a gank, or can just as well go for an early gank right away. Krugs can take quite a while to slay, given the lack of consistent AOE damage and how there is very little room for Isolated Qs on that camp.

As an additional trick for killing the Krugs, try saving your Q for when the Krugs break apart to multiply. The breaking animation gives players a slight window to land an Isolated Q on the still-standing mob.

3. Blue Side – Red Clear

Starting on the Blue Side and going for the Red Buff first perfectly mirrors the first Path we’ve covered. The only difference is that players can expect to reach the Blue Buff with more HP, given the health regeneration from the first buff and the extra help from your Bottom laners.

Players should still save Smite for the Blue Buff and Scuttler, especially since Kha’Zix lacks any form of hard CC to break the Scuttler’s shield with, so Smite is the only option.

From that position, you should be setting your sights on ganking rapidly, as it is ideal to get at least one kill before your first back. With both Junglers having only their starting items, Kha’Zix will always win the 1v1, whereas after the first back, the enemy Jungler can start building towards early defensive items in order to negate part of your damage.

This is why the keystone First Strike offers so much potential for Kha’Zix, as it does not only extend your damage output, but can also give players a considerable amount of bonus gold in order to keep their dominant position in the jungle.

4. Blue Side – Blue Clear

With the Blue Buff clear on the Blue Side, things are also similar with the mirror pathing. Since toplaners will likely provide less help in slaying the first camp, players can very rapidly kill the Gromp using smite and Isolated Qs, continuing with an organic full clear into the bottom side River.

Again, the Krugs are optional, depending on what opportunities lay ahead of you in each game, as kills and ganks should still be your top priority with Kha’Zix, both in the early stages and later into the game.

Due to the lack of AOE damage and the Isolation mechanic, The Voidreaver excels at clearing single camps, such as the Gromp and Buffs, but has a more difficult time with the multi-mob ones. This further emphasizes just how important early kills and invades are, in order to keep Kha’Zix impactful over the course of the entire game.

That being said, we’d like to shift our finalizing thoughts into a set of tips and tricks both new and veteran Kha’Zix players should abuse in order to dominate the Jungle!

Best Tips and Tricks for Kha’Zix

  • With Kha’Zix, in and out one-shots are everything, but that also requires some setup. Do not hesitate to occasionally buy control wards or to even play around with either the yellow or blue Trinkets. Having vision in the enemy jungle and in areas where enemy squishies are likely to go unassisted is the recipe for effective assassinations.
  • Your standard assassin combo is going to be E + Q + one basic attack, saving W to finish the kill if the enemy is running away, but things change up a bit once you hit Level 6.
  • If the circumstances allow it, it is better to simply walk up to the enemy target whilst invisible in R, and to simply execute a Q + basic attack combo. This will save you the E ability to either escape or to chase down a second kill, as you won’t have the evolved version of your wings until Level 11.
  • With sufficient practice and mobility, Kha’Zix can cover large distances completely unnoticed. Do not hesitate to use R to walk between brushes without getting detected, as Duskblade will provide plenty of camouflage to escape once you go in and secure a takedown.
  • Do not underestimate your damage output against isolated targets. Kha’Zix can successfully assassinate enemy squishies even while behind in gold and XP, thus making a comeback is not as difficult as with other AD Assassins.

Finalizing Thoughts

Kha’Zix still remains a powerful Jungler, more than 9 years after his release, for a good reason.

The high mobility, stealth, and one-shot potential this champion has been crafted with creates a truly satisfying experience for Assassin players.

Do not hesitate to jump into your first Kha’Zix game and start dominating the fog of war, slaying anyone foolish enough to cross paths with you!

Master Yi is a great jungler that has stayed relatively stable throughout the patches. While he is not in hyper meta right now, he is a strong pick with high carry and snowball potential, especially in lower ELOs.

Season 12 has come with massive changes. However, these changes are not so much focused on champion balance because of the sheer amount of system changes, such as the two new dragons joining the rotation, fitting Riot’s recent Arcane theme giving Season 12 a completely new polish.

Other changes include objective bounties, changes to the rift scuttler, new items, and much more.

We can see some changing shifts in the jungle, especially at the top side of the tier list. Attack speed junglers now have access to Lethal Tempo, and tank junglers have much more power thanks to Chemtech Putrifier and Frostfire Gauntlet changes.

These changes boost Master Yi right at the top, making him an S tier in Season 12. With the new changes to Lethal Tempo, Master Yi has been performing greatly both in low & high elo.

He is able to quickly ramp up attack speed and has much more consistent DPS than before. No more waiting for the keystone to activate and no more cooldowns. With consistent access to bonus attack speed, his damage output remains high without a random fall-off in the middle of a teamfight.

With all that in mind, here are the best Runes, Build, and Jungle Paths for Master Yi in Season 12.

The Best Runes For Jungle Master Yi

The Best Runes For Jungle Master Yi

These runes are great if you want to go for on-hit Yi, and they are especially good against tanks like Sion, Mordekaiser, etc. If the enemy team has two or more tanks, you don’t want to build lethality on Yi; you’re much better off going for on hit Yi.

The Best Items For Jungle Master Yi

The Best Items For Jungle Master Yi

When playing Master Yi jungle, you’d want to start with Kraken Slayer, the strongest mythic item you can build on Master Yi, straight into Guinsoo’s Rageblade and the Blade of the Ruined King right after. You’d typically not get tier 2 boots only after rage blade and just buy boots of speed after your Kraken Slayer.

Recommended Skill Build

Skill Build Master Yi Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide

Depending on the match-up or context, you can choose to max out the skills in a slightly different other, however, as a general recommendation, you’d be better off starting out with maxing your Q into your E and leaving your W for last.

The Best Jungle Paths for Master Yi

Depending on where the enemy jungler starts, your team composition, the enemy’s team composition, or whether or not you have received any leash will all be factors that influence your jungle path, so please keep that in mind.

With all that said, here is a general rule of thumb for the best jungle routes for Master Yi.

Blue Side – Blue Clear

Blue Side - Blue Clear Master Yi Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide

When starting on the blue side, blue clear, you’re going to want to start out with the blue buff, save your smite and then move to your frog as quickly as possible, where you will smite the frog.

The blue buff gives you mana regeneration which will help you clear the camps quicker and save health at the same time.

Generally, you’d want to clear out the wolf camp right after; however, make sure to keep an eye on the map and look out for an early gank potential on the top side, especially if your top laner has a hook such as Darius, or any heavy form of CC such as Nasus’s W. The enemy top laner might be pushing in too hard leaving a door open for an early lead.

With that said, always ward and be ready for a potential counter gank or invade. Think of where the enemy jungler has started to figure out whether or not they will be able to invade or counter gank you.

*General tip for this jungle path

No matter what side you’re starting on, never take early ganks with Master Yi unless the kill potential is very high, as failing to get the kill, wasting your summoner spells, or dying might set you back for the rest of the game. When playing jungle, time is essential. Don’t waste it.

Back to the jungle path, you’d want to move onto Raptors which you’d kite back, use your E after you have your double strike ready, and Q when Raptors are low on health.

Move onto your Red buff and use your smite on it.

After that, move onto the Krugs and try to look out for opportunities to gank your bot without taking any high risk, low reward ganks.

As usual, if proceeding with clearing camp, look to do scuttler crab but be aware of the enemy jungler as they might be there to contest. At this point, keep an eye on the map to see where their bot lane and mid laner are positioned, as you wouldn’t want them to help the enemy jungler.

The safest option is to gank bot after finishing scuttler crab. Look to gank bot side but don’t take any unnecessary risk. If the enemy bot is pushing under your tower, try to help your team while having a backup plan in case of a counter gank.

Blue Side – Red Clear

Blue Side - Red Clear Master Yi Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide

If you choose to start with Red on the Blue Side, you’d want to start by placing a word in the bush behind the red buff as this side is most prone to enemy invades.

If everything proceeds as usual, start by doing your Red buff first and save your smite.

Choose E as your second skill and move on to Krugs, where you will use your smite.

Unless the enemy bot lane is pushing hard under the tower, move onto your Raptors as the kill potential for Master Yi before hitting level 6 is usually low.

As shown on the map, move up towards the top, clear the Wolves camp and use your smite on the Blue buff.

You can place a ward on the river before clearing out the Gromp camp as you might be able to contest the scuttler crab.

After clearing out your Gromp, move onto the scuttler crab while keeping an eye on both the top and mid lane for potential ganks / counter-ganks.

Red Side – Blue Clear

Red Side - Blue Clear Master Yi Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide

When starting on the red side, you should almost always start with the Blue buff, hold your smite and move onto the Gromp, where you’ll use your smite.

Again, make sure you ward behind the Blue buff to avoid a potential invade from the enemy team.

Put a point in your E and move to your Wolves. Activate your E, then auto-attack the small wolves a couple of times to charge your double strike, then use Q on the big Wolf, which will also kill the small wolves. Drag the camp out to save time when you move onto your Raptors.

Next, you’d want to clear our the Raptors camp, which you’d kite out applying the same strategy you’ve used for the wolves.

Hold onto your smite for Red buff, then if no gank opportunities arise on mid or top clear your Krugs camp.

Usually, you’d want to clear your scuttler crab and look out for gank opportunities on either top or mid lane, depending on the context of the game.

You don’t want to do any invades with Master Yi before hitting level 6 unless the opportunity is right.

Red Side – Red Clear

Red Side - Red Clear Master Yi Jungle Path - The Ultimate JG Routes & Clearing Guide

When starting on the red side, red clear, you’d ideally want to hold your smite so you can quickly clear out the Krugs camp.

Saving as much time as possible, kite the Krugs out a little bit while creating your path down the map towards the Raptors.

From here, you’d normally go and clear the Wolves camp, and as shown in the image, you’d immediately move on to the Blue buff camp, where you’ll use smite.

To save time (this works on all sides), you’d want to drag out the camps while working your way up or down the map towards the other buffs, saving you a few precious seconds and potentially giving you the upper hand over the enemy jungler.

Clear the Gromp and look out for potential gank opportunities on the mid or bot side.

If no good opportunities arise where you have a high chance of getting the kill, such as a very low on health enemy mid or bot, proceed to do scuttler before looking to gank.

You might choose to recall (reset) and go top-side right after scuttler, but this depends on the context of the game.

Finalizing Thoughts

In this patch, Master Yi is a very strong jungler mainly because of the changes to Lethal Tempo.

Right now, Master Yi has a high potential for carrying in lower divisions where players don’t know how to counter him the right way.

He is still a strong pick even in higher divisions, but his high snowball potential is not as effective as players will have strategies and counter picks to stop that from happening.

Overall he is a very strong champion regardless, so if you’re a jungler, you should seriously consider picking up Master Yi.

Further changes in the following patches might include the nerfing of Lethal Tempo, making Yi less strong, so keep an eye out for that.

Kayn has seen a rise in popularity and quality in the last few patches. From a D-Tier Jungler in Season 11 – his lowest recent point – to a popular A-Tier pick in Season 12

Some changes have been made to the Jungle meta that have helped propel Kayn into the better position he now finds himself in.

Primarily, this stems from the meta shifting to a full Jungle clear, and Kayn excels significantly in clearing the camps quickly and efficiently. With his mighty spells, he can do his Jungle path and emerge with around a full health bar, which many Junglers cannot.

Also, the Scuttler has received a massive change in the pre-Season 11.23 Patch. Namely, its XP was reduced by a whopping 80%, almost wholly invalidating it in all Jungle paths. The XP is so abysmal that it doesn’t pay off to lose time taking the Scuttler. The only reason would be the extra vision.

In this guide, we will go over the best Jungle paths for Kayn in League of Legends. Things will be a little bit different than in previous patches, and we hope you enjoy and learn something new.

Let’s begin, shall we?

The Best Runes for Jungle Kayn

Since Kayn has two forms, we’re going to go over two rune combinations.

For Rhaast Kayn:

Rhaast is Kayn’s Bruiser/Fighter form and will significantly benefit from extra fighting capabilities. Since he heals a lot, adding additional healing sources and some tenacity will make him nigh unkillable if he gets fed. Boots are there for gold efficiency, and the Haste is self-explanatory.

For Shadow Kayn:

Kayn’s Shadow form is a pure Assassin, and we seek to maximize damage with these runes. As I’ve said in our best Dark Harvest Champions list, Kayn is one of the best Dark Harvest users in the game, namely in his Shadow form. Everything in this rune set will help you achieve more damage, the one thing you truly want when playing high mobility Assassins.

The Best Items for Jungle Kayn

As with the Runes, Kayn has wildly different itemizations for each of his forms. We will quickly name the best items for both.

Rhaast Kayn:

Start: Emberknife, Refillable Potion

Mythic: Goredrinker

Core: Sterak’s, MR, or Armor Boots (depending on the enemy composition)

Extension: Muramana, Death’s Dance, Spirit Visage, Serylda’s Grudge, Guardian Angel

Shadow Kayn:

Start: Hailblade, Refillable Potion

Mythic: Prowler’s Claw

Core: Youmuu’s Ghostblade, Ionian or MR Boots

Extension: Edge of Night, Serylda’s Grudge, Serpent’s Fang, Umbral Glaive, Muramana

Skill Leveling

For both Kayn forms, the leveling order is as follows:

Q > W > E

By the time you even reach any of the forms, your Q will be leveled up to at least level 3 and will be your core spell for the time being. Later on, combining all of your spells will be the best course of action, but your Q will still be the go-to spell of your kit.

The Best Jungle Paths for Kayn

Finally, we get to the main topic of this guide – the Jungle pathing. Kayn has two primary paths to take on each side of the Map.

Before we begin, I want to say a thing or two about Jungle clearing. There are a few factors it depends on, and you should take them all into consideration:

– Where did the enemy Jungler start?

– Can your Laners assist you with invasions? (Defensive and Offensive)

– Can you counter-gank the enemy Jungler?

These three questions are crucial to figuring out the best course of action when playing the Jungle. Of course, there are many other things the game will revolve around, but these are the basic ones you need to consider first before delving too deep.

With that out of the way, let’s begin with the paths.

1. Red Side Red Clear

When playing on both sides, Kayn will, as I’ve said, have two primary clears. On the Red Side, the first path we are looking at is the Red Clear.

As indicated on the Map above, this path begins with the Red Buff. After killing it and saving the Smite, Kayn should quickly move to the Krugs and use his Smite there. Then come the Raptors, which should pose the least issue as Kayn has a ton of AOE which will heal him substantially.

Starting Red will give you some early ganking potential, power, and sustain. If the opportunity arises, you should move into Mid for a gank, but only if this is a guaranteed win and not in other circumstances, as time is everything in the Jungle.

When moving on to the Blue Buff, you should clear the wolves first. Then, you can kite the Blue Buff and Gromp and fight them both simultaneously, saving yourself a lot of time. However, keep in mind that you will emerge with less HP from this fight than when fighting them one on one.

Despite it being indicated on the Map above that you should Smite Blue, I believe it more beneficial to use the Smite on Gromp instead, especially when fighting them both at once. If you fight them both, Gromp is the first one to be killed, and you should then proceed to kite the Blue Buff towards the River.

You should be looking at getting to the Scuttler by 3:15, and if you don’t, it isn’t much of an issue. Just try to improve your timings with each game. Since the Scuttler has been severely nerfed, now giving 80% less XP than in previous patches, you can even skip it and move on to Bot or Mid.

This will conclude your first clear. Of course, many things can happen in the meantime that will change your game. Be sure to keep answering those questions from above to stay above the enemy Jungler at all times.

2.  Red Side Raptor Clear

When it comes to comparing this clear with the previous, they are essentially the same. After completing the Red Buff Area, the Blue Buff Area will be identical, so I will not bore you with the intricacies of the latter, as they’re already indicated in the previous path.

With this path, Kayn will start the Raptors, as the name might suggest. Starting with the Red Buff Area, in general, will help your Bot Lane prepare a trap and be more proactive on their Lane. They won’t lose time leashing your camp, which can sometimes be a tremendous change to how the Bot Lane unfolds.

Starting Raptors gives your Top Laner the ability not to waste time on leashing. This presence of Laners on both sides will also keep your enemy mystified with your position, but since Kayn is so widely known – he will likely guess you started Raptors. The Raptor clear goes as follows:

  1. Clear Raptors quickly and move on to the Krugs asap.
  2. Save the Smite, don’t use it on either.
  3. Smite the Red Buff, and move on to the Blue Buff.

It is pretty straightforward. The most significant advantage of this start is that your Red Buff won’t be wasted on the Raptor and Krug camps, giving you more time to use it during a gank or encounter against the enemy Jungler.

After completing the Blue Buff, you will proceed to the Scuttler or skip it and move directly into Bot or Mid. If neither are available to gank, and this goes for the previous path as well, you can recall or try to counter-Jungle your opponent.

3. Blue Side Red Clear

The same two paths from above can be applied when starting on the Blue Side, with very little variation.

Primarily, that variation is that you will have to pull your Bot Lane in to help you when starting with the Red Buff. I mean, you can do it yourself, but that will be a lot slower and more inefficient. This gives your opposing Bot Laners to set up a trap and arrive in the Lane first.

This is a detriment to all Blue Side Red Buff starters. As the map shows, you will do Red without Smite, use it on Krugs and then clear the Raptors before moving on to the Blue Buff. The enemy Jungler will immediately know you started Red, and if he’s up there, he’ll have an easy time stealing your Blue.

The Blue Buff clear is also the same as the Red Side:

  1. Clear wolves
  2. Fight Blue and Gromp together
  3. Smite Gromp
  4. Move on to the Scuttler or Gank

The primary difference being is that you won’t go gank Bot Lane but move into Top instead. Or Mid, of course, whichever is open for it.

4. Blue Side Raptor Clear

The best course of action for a Blue Side Kayn is to start with the Raptors. This puts your Bot Lane out of danger and disadvantage. They won’t be diverted into helping you, nor will they lose time in the Jungle that could be better spent elsewhere. Your position won’t be as apparent, but most people will guess you started Raptors.

After the Raptor Clear, you will move on to the Krugs but save the Smite. After Smiting the Red Buff, you can either gank Mid if the opportunity arises or move on to the Blue Buff Area to clear it.

The clear is the same as the previous three clears, and I don’t have to repeat myself. After completing the clear, you can move to Top or Mid – again, only if the circumstances favor your gank. If not, recall or invade – your choice.

Whichever clear you’re doing, keep asking yourself and answering those primary three questions. If you don’t, you risk making grave mistakes that could’ve easily been avoided if you’d kept yourself aware of them at all times.

Finalizing Thoughts

Kayn is certainly a Champion that is on the rise in the recent patch. Changes made to the meta that shifted towards a full clear have benefited him greatly. Since he is one of the best Jungle clearers in the game, this will certainly significantly impact Kayn’s viability for the foreseeable future.

Even without these changes, Kayn was and is powerful. Never underestimate a good Kayn player – something that you will be after you master this guide. I highly recommend you play him, especially now.
