The Rise of the American Division NRG – Victory on the Horizon?
As the battles of the Swiss Phase come to an end, Korea and China are back in the spotlight. But there’s another star shining bright on the horizon: NRG.
NRG’s Journey to the Quarterfinals 🚀
It’s been quite a ride for NRG, and the journey is far from over. While Korean and Chinese teams predictably dominate, the USA is buzzing with hopes that NRG will maintain their impressive streak and bring home the trophy.
A quick flashback: Founded in 2015 and sponsored by the likes of Army National Guard, DXRacer, and Levi’s, NRG eSports made its promising debut after purchasing Team Coast’s NA LCS slot in 2016. The team started strong, albeit with its fair share of ups and downs.
After several roster changes and a brief stint in the NACS, 2023 saw NRG back in the LCS, having acquired the CLG brand.
Rooting for the Underdog!
With their return to the LCS, NRG made waves, toppling giants like Cloud9 and Team Liquid, but not without unexpected defeats against lower-tier teams. Despite the roller-coaster of results, NRG wrapped up the regular season in 5th place and showcased a remarkable playoff run. They defeated Team Liquid and the Golden Guardians, securing a spot at Worlds 2023. Though initially falling to Cloud9, they made a triumphant comeback, clinching the LCS Championship in a striking 3:1 series.
NRG has never clinched the Worlds title. But in a game where anything’s possible and surprises are around every corner, 2023 might just be their year. With Niship Doshi leading the player’s division and Philippe Lavoie-Giguere at the helm of coaching, NRG is all geared up. And who knows? This might be the year where the underdog steals the show.
The final chapter of this captivating story is yet to unfold. But one thing’s for sure: It’s a journey worth following.
